On the evening of August 7, 2024, a catastrophic event transpired in Surat Thani, Thailand, when a sudden flash flood rapidly engulfed Nam Talu cave, endangering a group of 22 tourists. However, due to the rainy season, the cave is typically closed from June to November because of the heightened risk of flooding. Unfortunately, the tour guides disregarded safety protocols and led the group into the cave despite the closure, exposing them to perilous conditions.

Pongyot Koeddee, one of the tour guides, bravely attempted to rescue the tourists caught in the dangerous rush. The tourists were fortunate to survive with only minor injuries, as two Dutch women received treatment for leg injuries at a nearby hospital.
